where moonlight barely crept
Sat a child with trembling hands
where innocence was dead
Floorboards groaned like mourners
beneath a weight I couldn’t name
Each creak a taunting echo
each touch a sting of shame
The stars outside my window
once bright with holy glow
Turned and hid their faces
as if they didn’t know
Where were you, Silent keeper?
Where were you when darkness swallowed me?
Where were you, Distant Watcher?
When my voice was choked by fear
where were you, when evil did its deed
I prayed for you to stop it
I pleaded and I begged
But my prayers went unanswered
No help was on the way
The night was black as silence
Smothering my hope
I felt like you had left me
Abandoned and alone
Where were you, Silent keeper?
Where were you when darkness swallowed me?
Where were you, Distant Watcher?
When my voice was choked by fear
where were you, when evil did its deed?
Now I feel an ember stirring in the ashes of my pain
Where I thought the scars had left my faith for dead
My fragile hope is struggling to become a tiny flame
But I don’t have my questions answered yet
Where were you wounded healer
Did you hear the desperate prayers I prayed?
Where were you Savior Jesus
In the face of my despair
