A Warrior’s Prayer

O God hear my prayer
I am a warrior
I answered my country’s call and I trained to do my job well
I served in a foreign land against an enemy I could not see
My comrades stood with me
and together we fought those who had terrorized innocent people
Death was all around and it exploded suddenly without warning
My Buddies died
But I did not die
I came home
Today the conflict has ended but I am still at war
The fighting plays over and over and over in my mind!
I cannot sleep
I am filled with anger fed by guilt and fear and loneliness
I’m like a ship adrift in a sea of depression and despair
Merciful God hear my cry!
Grant me relief from the terrors of the night
Heal my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wounds
I know I must move on with my life
But I need your help
And so I pray for enough faith to have hope
and enough hope to love and trust again
Hear my prayer Lord
Hear my prayer and give me peace
….deep peace in my soul
