Music can be a powerful force. It can make you tap your toes, sing out loud, or even experience intense feelings. With music effecting you in such a strong way, why not harness this power for good? This is part of why music is so therapeutic.

Depression is a difficult burden to bear. You may feel like you’re living life in fog. It may feel like you’re drowning, despite how hard you swim. These hard feelings can be alleviated with the help of music. Listening to some songs can lift your spirits and make life more bearable. Here are five songs that can help:

1   In All Things

Knowing that God is with you no matter what can help lift even the darkest of moods and deepest of sorrows. This song can remind you that God loves you and is with you, no matter how you feel or how hard things may be.

In all things
In all things
Even in the worst life brings
Deep in pain
On my knees
Jesus you are here with me
In all things”

2   I Promise to Be with You

When you are feeling depressed, it can be an isolating experience. “I Promise to Be with You” is a great way to remember that God doesn’t abandon us, even in our darkest moments, He will be there.

To live in the moment
To breathe in the blessings
To gather your burdens and leave them at my feet
Abundant joys and mercies wait
in every dawn that breaks
I promise to be with you today”

3   Where is My Faith

Often in the midst of struggle and hardship, it can be easy to feel forgotten and to struggle to believe in the reality of God and His endless love. When you feel like you do not have the faith to continue, “Where is My Faith” can help you find it again.

How many times have you been there for me?
Right on time with the very thing I need
How many miracles do I need to see
before I’m convinced that you care for me?
How many teardrops do you have to dry
before I remember your sacrifice?”

4   Wounded Angel

No one is perfect, we all make choices that can cause us sorrow and heartache. But those choices and feelings do not have to separate us from God. Because of Jesus’ perfect love for us, we can be reunited with God and have healing through His love.

Wounded angel
So depressed you wonder
if you’ll ever smile
Wounded angel
Kicking fences down
Like a pony running wild
I was watching, saw you taking
An inch, a foot, a mile
Hush now precious wounded angel
You are still my child”

5   Just the Way I Am

We are all children of God. He created us in His image. He knows us better than we know ourselves and He loves us still. When we are feeling low, knowing that He loves us forever and always can help boost our spirits and help us hang on.

Just the way that I am
Just the way I was made
A divine work of art in every way
Just the way that I am
Just the way I should be
I’m so glad
You made me just the way that I am”

Depression can be an ugly and hard burden to bear. You don’t have to bear it alone, there is help, mentally, spiritually, physically and musically. Time for a Breakdown
Missi Hale & Kim Walling

Pressed against the window pane
Looking out at a world you want to embrace
But walls have enclosed your heart with fear
It’s alright, it’s alright if you cry
Don’t you hold all your tears on the inside
Just let go
It’s time you breathe again
So tell me

What are you waiting for
When love is knocking on your door
Don’t be afraid to begin again
Worn out from holding in
All of the hurt from where you’ve been
Release it
You know it’s about
Time for a breakdown

It’s alright tonight if you fall
There is grace to uphold the breakable
Hope can reach into your soul
and bring you life once more

So what are you waiting for
Love is knocking on your door
Don’t be afraid to begin again
Worn out from holding in
All of the hurt from where you’ve been
Release it
You know it’s about
Time for a breakdown

There’s no need to cry without a sound
Let those tears fall to the ground
It’s time for a breakdown

So what are you waiting for
When freedom is knocking on your door
It’s time for you to begin again
You don’t need to keep on holding in
All of the hurt from where you’ve been
Release it
You know it’s about
Time for a breakdown
