“If I were the best writer in the world I couldn’t do what music can do.”   Wendy Farley, Associate Professor of Religion at Emory College

What We Believe

Music for the Soul was founded based on two firmly and passionately held beliefs.

First, that Jesus is the compassionate healer, the one who loves us without reservation, and is always with us even in our deepest, darkest despair and times of greatest challenges.

Second, that music, particularly as expressed in a song, is one of God’s greatest gifts of communication, with the power to speak healing straight to people’s hearts where words alone can often fail. We believe that there are severely hurting people among us who may not be reached any other way but by hearing the message of Christ’s renewing love through the touch of music.

We combine these two beliefs to create unique CD and DVD resources that help people engage with the truth on difficult issues; to help us live as Paul puts it, “as children of the light.” Ultimately, our goal is that no one should ever feel alone. We want people to feel known, understood, and loved by others – and by God.

“Music for the Soul puts words to their stories, provides solace for their pain, and points them to a Power greater than themselves. Not only does Music for the Soul provide companionship for hurting people, it also provides partnership to those who have the privilege of caring for others.”   Sharon A. Hersh, MA, LPC, Author & Professor, Lone Tree, Colorado

Why We Do What We Do

We all build walls to shield ourselves from deep pain, guilt, and shame. Music has a way of seeping through the cracks in those walls and opening up the heart. Then a message of hope and healing can be placed in the opened heart.

Next, melody acts as a memory device. Studies show people remember more of what they hear in music than what they read or are told. Combining lyrics with a melody increases the chance a person will remember the message. Also, unlike talking, music engages the limbic system of the brain where it is processed at the speed of light. That’s why it “fast tracks” emotions. This can help create breakthrough for those who’ve been unable to hear in words that which they so desperately need to hear.

To reinforce and personalize the message of our songs we combine them with compelling personal stories, both in testimonies on our CDs, and in moving visual portrayals on our DVDs. The quality of writing and production is exceptional.

“You have a gift that reaches where most of us cannot go”  Dr. David Walley, Counselor & Life Coach, Nashville, TN

For every resource we utilize the best in professional recording techniques as well as world class players, singers, writers, videographers, and engineers. Further, we rely on an advisory board of professional Christian therapists, pastors, and ministry leaders with expertise in the chosen topic. Additionally, we spend several hours interviewing people who’ve lived through the topic at hand.

When we have consensus that the material we’ve written and collected is “right” then we begin the recording process. It is the vision of Music for the Soul to equip individuals, Christian counselors, and pastors with resources that speak to every major issue facing our society today so that no matter what problem may walk through the door on any given day there is musical resource available to help.

Our Vision and Mission

Zechariah 7:9 says, “Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another (NIV).”

It is our hope that our CDs, DVDs, and discussion guides will bring you into the presence of the merciful and compassionate God of all creation. As Jesus fed the 5,000 without asking their race, social status, religious, or political background we seek to respond to hurting people without regard to denominational affiliation or any other human distinctions that only serve to divide.

“Our God is not the one who sits high upon a throne in heaven ruling over the world in abstentia but instead bends down low to embrace us where we are. Our God is not one who seeks to be protected from our pain but seeks to be present within it. Our God is the One whose promise to us is that there is no fire so hot, no darkness so deep, no pit so low, no cross so painful that God will not move heaven and earth to share with us.”   Rev. Stacy Rector
