Approximately half of the U.S. adult population currently shoulders or soon will shoulder elder care responsibilities. The day-to-day realities of caregiving, while rewarding, can be isolating, exhausting, and even at times devastating for those who invest their emotional, financial, spiritual, and practical resources in providing for the needs of their loved ones.

Caregivers walk through a minefield of mixed expectations; they feel the weight of false guilt; they struggle to control diseases, doctors, siblings, spouses, children, even death itself.

Listening to Dignity is like sitting in the company of a friend who knows our hearts and has walked where we have walked; who knows our trials and blessings, joys and tears, and our fears and sorrows. This resource was created for busy caregivers who find it difficult to find the time to schedule one more thing, yet need encouragement and support and, most of all – to feel understood.

Our prayer is that you experience the comfort, love, and presence of Jesus through the words and music of the Dignity project.

Shelly Beach, Caregiver - Music for the Soul Advisory Board

Having been a family caregiver and as a result of my experience switching careers and devoting my life to equipping, empowering and encouraging family, pastoral and professional caregivers, the Dignity project is certainly a treasured resource.

I applaud the efforts of Music for the Soul. Each of the songs brings comfort and reinforces honor. It is a pleasure and privilege to sponsor this project and I encourage family, pastoral and professional caregivers to invest in a CD.

Charles Puchta - Caregiving Professional

You touched all the bases. It's overwhelming.
It is seamless the way one thing just flows into the others.
Grace seems to be the recurring theme of the whole thing.

It should come with a warning sticker, 'Do not operate heavy machinery while listening.' It is so emotional. A great. Job. Beautiful, just beautiful.

Jeff C. - Caregiver for his father for two years

A wonderful and tender project. Again, Music for the Soul touches our souls by writing and singing songs that matter, songs that address the real needs of real people and take on the hard problems of life in an ever-redemptive way.

Gloria Gaither - Gaither Family Resources

The value of the Dignity CD to care-givers and care-receivers is immeasurable. I urge anyone working with caregiving to make "Dignity" a part of the journey, which will provide peace, hope, joy, honesty, and courage. I would also encourage anyone to offer this work to their community, nursing home, assisted living facilities, churches, and hospice organizations, as it speaks to the heart of caring for others.

DIGNITY
Words & Music by Steve Siler

I never wanted to end up this way
Helpless to help myself
With the simple day to day
I long for the time
When good health was mine
I miss who I used to be
and what I miss the most
is my dignity

When I act hurtful
It's because I feel ashamed
Broken, in bondage to
This unresponsive frame
I can't tie my shoes
I can't brush my hair
I'm dependent for so many needs
And no one wants to live
without dignity

I look in your eyes
and to my surprise
When you look at me
You see more than a disease

It's by your caring
That I am getting through
You have been Jesus
When only He would do
When this is hard
Know deep in your heart
The gift that you've given to me
That gift is nothing less
That gift is nothing less
That gift is nothing less
Than my dignity
