There is Hope and Freedom from Eating Disorders

The term eating disorders usually refers to anorexia and bulimia, which are currently epidemic in the United States. In anorexia, people starve themselves, while in bulimia people eat huge quantities of food, then purge it from their bodies, usually by vomiting. Although males do get eating disorders, the majority of those struggling with these devastating disorders are female. And it isn't one special type of female who is vulnerable - it's every one. Young, old, rich, poor, all ethnic groups; Christian, non-Christian - no one is immune.

Anorexia and bulimia are complex disorders and difficult to understand. Similar to addictions, so often the behaviors are difficult to break. But the important message to remember is that these disorders can be conquered. Why? Because all things are possible with God. As believers, we know that; and as healthcare professionals at Remuda Programs for Eating Disorders, a Christian-based treatment center, we have seen recovery happen thousands of times. Patients must receive help from a variety of healthcare providers, but nothing is more important than the hope and healing found in Jesus Christ.

Consider the words of former patients:

"I had my eating disorder for 13 years, and truthfully, I thought I would have it forever. I had been in treatment a number of times. I understood what they were trying to tell me, but the voice in my head was louder. Only when I turned to God was I finally set free from the eating disorder that had controlled me for so long. Now, I am happy, and even more important, healthy. Every day is a gift."

Free - what an amazing word! Freedom from bondage is possible when the Lord is part of your treatment team.

"Today, at the age of 23, I am alive, strong, and happier than ever. If there was one thing that I would like to tell all of the people who are currently struggling with an eating disorder, it would be, ÔDon't ever give up hope. If you give up hope, the eating disorder has just won the battle'. I have seen too many people give in to the eating disorder and it pains me to know that they may never get another chance at life."

The key word in the above message is hope. Hope, as well as love, mercy, grace, and healing, are found in God. If you, or people you know, are struggling with an eating disorder, get help today. There is hope and healing at Remuda! Call 1-800-445-1900 or visit http://www.remudaranch.com.
