After Katrina devastated the gulf coast on August 29th, 2005 two of our supporting
organizations made generous gifts in order that we might be able to create
a CD for the people of the gulf coast.
After the Storm: Rebuilding Lives…Reclaiming Hope was completed in
six weeks and was debuted on the Moody Radio program Midday Connection on
October
25th, fifty-eight days after the hurricane.
The coming together of the project was a remarkable experience. Two pieces
from the record, the reading “Joe and Anna” and the song “Binder
of the Broken” just showed up in our e-mail box. The piece “Homeland” showed
up in our post office box two days before final mastering.
The piece “My Father is About Love” was a miraculous answer to
prayer as evacuee Lyndia Handy, without any prompting whatsoever from us,
spoke from personal experience with eloquence and passion on the issue of
racism.
It seemed that at every step God met us with exactly the piece of the puzzle
that was needed.
The generosity of the players, writers, singers, arrangers, engineers, and
publishers - with their time, money, and resources – was a true blessing.
A special acknowledgement needs to go to New Orleans resident James Tealy and
New Orleans native Sara Beth Geoghegan both of whom made brilliant contributions
to the record.
Many of the spoken word pieces on the record come from those who lived the
experience of the hurricane first hand. We are deeply in their debt for making
themselves so vulnerable in sharing their stories with us.
We pray that this record will be a blessing and encouragement for those who
have been through the tragedy of Katrina. Many have already told us that this
CD speaks powerfully to those who are facing other kinds of storms in their
lives. So we pray that this project might speak to you no matter what the storm
is you face - and that all who listen will find refuge in the God who is our
ultimate strength.

"We can't keep the CDs in stock. Our people are giving them away to their friends and neighbors here in New Orleans. The songs and testimonies speak to our hearts and help us deal with the daily experience of seeing the devastation. They give us hope, and we need that more than anything. Thank you for turning your thoughts and your hearts toward us in our time of trouble.
- David E. Crosby, Pastor, First Baptist Church of New Orleans
"I can't tell you how impressed I am with "After the Storm." What a blessing. It is incredible!"
- Aaron Sanders, Disaster Relief Minister -Istrouma Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, LA
"I keep listening to the CD over and over again. It's like I can't get enough of it...like it is bringing pain and hurt and sorrow to the surface that has been pushed down in order to deal with all that's been going on here. It is surfacing now because your music somehow reminds me that it is safe for it to come out - that Someone wants to carry it for me and will be with me for the long haul. Thanks for awakening my heart again to the Lord's comfort and love. It has renewed my faith and hope and is helping me to grieve the many losses that have come our way."
- Kathy Boren, Mandeville, LA
"I love the CD. I have used it already numerous times in therapy. And I have listened to it over and over for my own storm-battered soul."
- Sharon Hersh, Therapist, Author, and Seminary Professor, Denver CO
"Wow! I want to get a copy of this CD into as many hands as I can. It hits home!
Thank you so much for After the Storm. It is the most beautiful thing...a gesture of love. It ministered to me."
- Pastor Larry Roques, Joy Fellowship Church, Slidell, LA
"I received your CD from a friend. It is wonderful so healing! I have already passed it on to a friend who needs it. Please send me one to replace mine and 9 more for friends and relatives, some of whom have lost everything."
- Julia Spear, Slidell, LA
"My husband and I saw you guys on T.V. and we were excited about what you have done for the Katrina survivors. I think we’ll need about 12 (CDs)…this is just sisters and brothers. Thank you so much for what you are doing to help ease the pain so many are feeling at this time. May God use your ministry in a mighty way."
- Deb & Bobby Fischer, Spring Hill, TN
"After food the thing my people need the most is music."
- Pastor Louis Husser, Crossgate Baptist Church, Robert, LA
"It is fantastic! Thanks so much for doing this."
- Pastor Israel Cox, Crosspoint Church of Gulfport, Gulfport, MS |
